Marvel and Disney just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming live-action MCU series Secret Invasion. The show stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Game Of Thrones alumni Emilia Clark as G’iah, Talos’s daughter.

The first trailer sets a much darker tone than we’re used to seeing with the MCU, and shows Fury facing off against a new and frightening threat. Here’s the trailer:

This is exactly what the MCU needs right now. Something darker and more intense and grounded than a lot of the recent shows and movies. Frankly, the MCU has been doing its best to chase viewers away with drivel like She-Hulk. And even though Ant-Man 3 had its moments, overall it just felt unfocused. This new story of a secret invasion of shapeshift Skrulls looks far better than anything Marvel’s given us for a long time. And, of course, you can never have too much Samuel L. Jackson—or Ben Mendelsohn for that matter . . . .

From the press release:

In Marvel Studios’ new series “Secret Invasion,” set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.

Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

Ali Selim directs the series and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. Jackson, Ali Selim, Kyle Bradstreet and Brian Tucker. Kyle Bradstreet is also the head writer, and Jennifer L. Booth, Allana Williams and Brant Englestein serve as co-executive producers.

Marvel and Disney also released this new Secret Invasion poster which shows Nick Fury’s face all interlaced with a Skrull face. It’s pretty cool. The tag-line is “Who do you trust?” which makes sense in a story about nefarious shapeshifters.
