Trump Votes By Mail (Again) Despite Months Of Voter Fraud Claims

Topline

Despite spending months after the 2020 presidential election attacking the safety of mail-in voting, former President Donald Trump once again relied on the voting method to cast his ballot in a Florida municipal election held Tuesday.

Key Facts

First reported by The Palm Beach Post, Trump requested his mail-in ballot for the town’s municipal election on Friday.

The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections confirmed through its website that the former president cast his vote by mail, and that it was counted on Tuesday.

This marks the third time Trump has voted by mail in Palm Beach as he also cast ballots this way in the presidential primary last March and in the August primary.

Trump’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Surprising Fact

The former president has only voted in person once since moving to Palm Beach from New York City in 2019.

Key Background

Trump repeatedly targeted mail-in voting in the aftermath of the 2020 election, claiming increased access due to the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated opportunities for fraud, though there is no evidence suggesting this is true. “If foreign countries want to, this is an easy system to break into because they’ll do counterfeit ballots … They’ll do counterfeit ballots by the millions,” Trump said at a White House meeting with state attorneys general on Sept. 23 in one of numerous false claims about mail-in ballots.

Tangent

The former president at times homed in on states that automatically sent mail-in ballot applications to all registered voters as opposed to those making voters request a mail-in ballot, and at one point labeled Florida’s voting system “safe and secure,” urging residents to vote by mail. “Florida’s voting system has been cleaned up … so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!” Trump tweeted in August.
